Large pores on face or nose leave the skin looking wrinkled and unhealthy. I know this because I have pores all over my face from my long battle with acne. Although, large pores are due to genetics, accumulation of bacteria and oil on skin can lead to the increase in their size.
Since acne is a bacterial infection on skin, a severe case leads to enlarged pores. Squeezing pimples also makes the pores enlarge. Additionally, as we age the pores continue to appear bigger in size since the skin’s elasticity reduces remarkably. Other causes of large pores on face or nose include menopause, hormonal changes, stress and improper use of cosmetics.
There is no permanent solution for large pores except to reduce their size. This is because pores are actually hair follicles, which are visible on the skin surface even though hair does not sprout out. Each of the fine pits that appear on the skin has sebum producing glands.
The pores tend to be larger in some locations depending on the size of the sebaceous glands. The skin type also plays a major role in the size of pores. People who are light skinned for example have smaller pores as opposed to those with dark or olive skin.
Furthermore, those who have dry skin type will have very fine pores as opposed to people with oily skin. My skin type is oily hence, the many problems that accompany it. In this article, I will discuss how to reduce pore size on face and nose naturally at home. Remedies I have tried and have worked without causing further damage on my acne prone skin.
How to Reduce Pore Size on Nose
The nose unfortunately is one of the oiliest parts on the face. This is because it tends to have large sebaceous glands. You will notice how the nose keeps shinning even after using finishing powder on your skin. You have to keep touching up to avoid the shine. Reducing the size of those pores on nose is a concern for most people who have sensitive or oily skin. However, you can decrease pore size in the comfort of your home. Here is how to reduce pore size on nose:
You will need:
- Water in a pot boiling on stove
- A towel
- A pore extractor or a paper towel
- 1 tablespoon Bentonite clay
- Witch hazel
- Cotton wool
- Cleanser that is oil free
- Fine grain scrub
Step#1: Cleanse your skin while paying attention to the nose. Cleanse the nose with upward circular motions.
Step#2: Scrub your skin giving emphasis to the nose area with circular motion for a full minute.
Step#3: Fetch the boiling water from the stove and place the pot on a surface where you can easily reach with your whole face. While placing your face over the pot, cover you head with the towel. Ensure that you form a tent so that the steam from the hot water can hit all the parts of your face and especially your nose. Remain in that position for 5-10 minutes before dabbing your skin dry.
Step#4: Dampen a portion of the towel with the water in the pot. Hold the towel until it becomes warm, and then wipe your nose area with the warm towel to remove the oiliness. You can do the same for the rest of your face.
Step#5: Using the pore extractor removes any left oils from the pores on your nose. If you do not have a pore extractor use a paper towel to blot any left oils from the nose. This is the only way to ensure the pores remain oil free and hence reduce in size.
Step#6: Mix one tablespoon of bentonite clay or any other clay you have with warm water to make a thick paste. Apply the paste on the nose area including other parts of your face if your skin is oily. Leave the clay on the skin for 15 minutes or until it dries off completely. Using a moist washcloth, wipe off the mask and dry your skin.
Step #7: Get a ball of cotton wool, pour three to four drops of witch hazel toner or any other natural toner, and rub it over the nose to act as toner to decrease pore size. Better still, you can use a salicylic lotion if you have a very oily nose.
Remember you can only steam your face or nose once a week. However, you should always give your nose proper cleansing and toning each day. A weekly exfoliation is also beneficial in reducing pore size.
How to Reduce Pore Size on Face
Reducing pore size on face requires good cleansing techniques to remove any oils and debris from the pores. It is important to make use of a good cleanser such as a salicylic acid kind using a clarisonic skin brush. The brush is gentle enough on skin, but does a great job in clearing any debris from the pores.
After cleansing, it is good to follow up with a toner. If your skin is sensitive, you should avoid toners containing alcohol, as they would irritate your face. Any irritations would lead to breakouts, a thing that can cause a formation of more and larger pores.
Facial toning should be followed with a moisturizer that is mild and oil free. Choose a good moisturizer with salicylic acid. Furthermore, avoid those moisturizers with mineral oil or petroleum. These heavy greases could clog the pores further and cause breakouts on your face. Additionally they do not reduce pore size at all.
While cleansing, toning and moisturizing should be a daily routine. Every once twice or thrice a week you should exfoliate with a mild scrub, probably a homemade solution that is natural. For example, butter mixed with salt make a good scrub that will not leave the skin dry. The aim of scrubbing is to get rid of any dead cells on your face in order to reduce pore size.
A facial mask must also be used every two to three days in a week from natural sources and mostly fruits. Over the counter masks on the other hand should also contain fruit enzymes, retinols or alpha hydroxyl acids. Facial masks do an overall job of tightening the pores. As a result, facial pores appear reduced in size.
Steaming your face after every two weeks is also advisable to remove excess oils on the skin. Furthermore, always use a sun block when you have to be outdoors
Overall, decreasing the size of pores on face requires cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and masking, steaming, applying sunscreen and exfoliating with natural products that will not damage the skin.
