The robber barons of the late 19th century would’ve had a field day if they’d invented Netflix. The way the streaming service amasses great shows and movies with almost no competition is simply delicious. That’s why fans were so worried when rumors circulated that “Money Heist,” a Spanish series commonly referred to as “The Most Expensive Netflix Original” for its reported $40-million production budget, might not get a season 6. And you know what? They weren’t wrong in worrying. A $40-million season of the series.

Director and creator Álex Pina confirmed that Season 5 will be the last season of Money Heist, which is also known as La Casa de Papel (House of Paper) in its native language.
The news was announced via Twitter after fans noticed that there were no further episodes planned for Season 5. The show’s official Twitter account wrote, “You have a question about ‘La casa de papel’?” followed by a link to a video from Pina, who said:
“I’m going to make some announcements about this project. First of all, I want to say that we are not going to make any more seasons of La casa de papel.”
He went on to explain that at first he had thought about making 10 seasons but now he has changed his mind because he wants to focus on other projects instead. He also said that he would like for people to watch his new movie called ‘In Your Eyes’, which is currently being filmed in Brussels and will come out in 2020 or 2021.
