3 Things To Know Before Getting Botox

It seems to be a trend in today’s society that when women begin to form wrinkles, the feel the need to either get rid of, or hide these wrinkles in a variety of ways. Many new skincare regimens and practices have done an excellent job in keeping skin healthy so that wrinkles don’t form for a longer period of time.

However, everyone ages, and eventually everyone will have wrinkles. After this step, the most common way to get rid of those unwanted wrinkles is a botox procedure. But what is Botox? In this page we’ll talk about 3 things you should know before getting Botox.

1. What is Botox?

Botox is short for “Botulinum Toxin.” This is an injectable that can be inserted into the face or body to paralyze muscles either temporarily or indefinitely. When these muscles are paralyzed, they refrain from drooping and moving which causes the skin to droop as well.

So the cosmetic effect that comes from Botox is actually caused by the muscles underneath losing their sensitivity and mobility.

If done right, the botox procedure has very little if any long term side effects on the patient. Although the muscles are being paralyzed, the patient will still have full function over the facial muscles required to communicate and interact with others. With those facial muscles paralyzed however, some muscle movement will be restricted.

2. Botox works better on younger patients than it does on older patients.

Because the muscles are still in the correct placement that you’d want them to be, it is more effective and more efficient for the botox procedure to be done while the patient is still young, rather than waiting until the muscles and skin have already moved into a different position to undergo the procedure.

Typically younger clients will start using the product when wrinkle lines begin to show and will continue to do so for years. It is however a slippery slope and trends have shown that the sooner someone begins to use botox, the more they feel the need for it as years go on.

3. Activity is strictly prohibited after the injection process.

Because this drug is paralyzing your muscles, it is highly concentrated and calculated where it needs to be injected. Because of this it can’t be spread around.

If the toxin itself is spread around after injection, it could adversely affect the client’s facial muscles that were not meant to be targeted.

The best way to protect from unwanted spreading of the botox toxin is to refrain from any physical activity for a couple days after the operation, and to stay off of any airplanes or other means in which the atmospheric pressure would change in your surroundings. This change can also affect the spread of the toxin.

Hopefully these tips helped. As the trend of injection continues, new advancements will be brought to light and the procedure will become even better. However, as mentioned earlier, as of now there are no long term side effects to using botox.
