Hair dye comes in many different colours and styles, but the most common type is permanent dye. This is a very strong chemical that can cause your hair to become dry and brittle, so it’s important to take care of your locks after you dye them.
Fortunately, if you accidentally get hair dye on your clothes, there are several ways to remove the dye stains. Many of these methods are fairly simple and don’t require any special products. The best way to remove hair dye from clothing depends on the fabric that has been stained.
How To Get Hair Dye Out Of Clothes:
Here are some tips for removing hair dye from clothes:
· Soak It In Cold Water
Soak the clothing in cold water for about 30 minutes. The water will help lift the dye off of the fabric so it will be easier to rinse out later on. Make sure that there is enough room in the tub for all of your clothing items because you do not want them getting wet from other clothes being washed at the same time as well!
If you’ve got an old t-shirt or other piece of clothing that has hair dye on it, the first thing you should do is soak it in cold water. This will help to set the color and make it easier to remove.
· Use Shampoo Or Dish Soap
If you have some shampoo or dish soap on hand, rub it into the affected area and let sit for around 20 minutes. This should loosen up any remaining dye molecules that are stuck to your clothes and help them rinse out more easily. If you don’t have either of these things on hand, try using some vinegar instead – just remember to dilute it with water first!
You can also use shampoo or dish soap when soaking your clothes in cold water. This helps lift out excess dye from fabrics so that it does not stain your clothes as much when rinsing them out later on!
If the stain is fresh, you can use shampoo or dish soap as well. Add a small amount of either one directly onto the stain and rub it in with your fingers until it comes off. If this doesn’t work, try soaking the garment in warm water first (but not hot) before applying shampoo or dish soap.
· Use A Baking Soda Paste Or Vinegar Rinse
Baking soda paste works well on many types of stains including food, grass and blood, so it should be able to remove most types of hair dye stains too (see below for instructions). Vinegar can also help to remove dye stains so you can try using a vinegar rinse instead of cold water or shampoo if you prefer.
· Use A Hair Dye Remover Spray
There are many home remedies for removing hair dye from clothes, but they are not always effective.
Hairspray is an effective stain remover because it’s formulated to keep hair in place. It contains alcohol, which helps dissolve stains and removes them from fabrics. Spray a bit of hairspray onto the stain, wait five minutes and then wash as usual.
This will help loosen up the dye on the fabric and make it easier to remove. Use hairspray that contains alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, as these ingredients can also help break down dyes.
· Use an enzyme-based cleaner on stubborn stains.
These cleaners contain natural enzymes that break down protein stains including those caused by hair dyes and bodily fluids such as blood and urine. They are available at most supermarkets or drugstores in the laundry aisle. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how much cleaner to use, how far away from stained areas you should keep it, and how long to let it sit before laundering your garments again.
· Remove as much excess dye as possible before washing.
Use cold water if possible to avoid setting the stain. Remove any loose particles by brushing gently with a soft brush or wiping with a wet cloth dipped in white wine vinegar or lemon juice. Don’t scrub at the stain — this will only make matters worse!
- Pre-treat stubborn stains with an enzyme-based stain remover spray such as Shout Advanced Stain Remover Spray & Color Booster (UK).
- Apply directly to stained area and leave for 15 minutes before washing in warm water as usual.
- Repeat as necessary until all traces of colour have been removed (if necessary).
- Apply laundry detergent directly to the stain and rub it in gently using your fingertips or an old toothbrush if necessary (make sure not to scrub too hard).
- Let this sit for a few minutes before rinsing out with warm water and blotting dry with a clean towel; repeat until all traces have been removed
