Prevent Wrinkles with Vitamin E: Does Vitamin E Oil Help Face & Eye Wrinkles?

Youth is priceless…But it fizzles so fast.

Is there a cheat sheet to help us get rid of the evidence of aging? Yes, and the answer, believe it or not, is VITAMIN E! We dug deep for before and after pictures, reviews and tips on and how to use vitamin E oil to reduce, prevent and get rid of wrinkles.

The use of vitamin E for wrinkles, especially vitamin E oil has been shown to have a positive effect in erasing wrinkles and reducing the appearance of fine lines around eyes, lips, and forehead. One of my favorite products I would recommend you try is this one (tap for more pictures):

Before and after photos as well as user reviews show that vitamin E oil capsules work when applied topically on the skin.

Does Vitamin E Help Wrinkles?

We recently received this question from one of our readers:

“Father Nature has lately caught up with me and I have wrinkles all over my face. My friend thinks that I could benefit from using vitamin E. Does Vitamin E help wrinkles or is it just a myth?” Martin

Well, the answer to your problem (Martin) is, YES, it does. Vitamin E helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. In fact, vitamin E is one of the best treatments for wrinkles in my opinion.

Vitamin E helps to reverse the damage caused by factors such as air pollution, smoking, and sun damage leading to less wrinkling on your face.

How Good is Vitamin E?

There is this other question from another reader who thinks that she has developed those dreaded fine lines on the face a bit too early.

“I am 45 years old but the wrinkles on my face and neck make me look like my mom’s age mate. I suspect it could have a genetic factor. Is vitamin E good for wrinkles reduction as one vitamin E oil product I saw on the supermarket shelf claims?” Helen

Wrinkles develop naturally as we age. Some people, however, develop wrinkles and fine lines at a young age due to lifestyle factors ranging from excessive drinking, smoking – the worst culprit of them all – and excessive exposure to the harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Pollution is also often to blame as it causes a buildup of free radicals in the skin.

While there is nothing much you can do about some of the factors e.g. pollution, you can always use vitamin E for wrinkles improvement; applying and taking vitamin E is a potent face wrinkle reduction strategy that you can always turn to reduce the effects of free radicals and sun damage.

According to Joanna Vargas, a celebrated facial stylist, vitamin E protects the skin against cell mutation due to pollution and sun damage that is often to blame for those fine lines and wrinkles under eyes.

Can you use vitamin E oil for wrinkles under eyes? The skin under and around your eyes is usually very thin and sensitive to external factors and irritations. It is thus not surprising that signs of skin damage such as wrinkles, age spots, and fine lines tend to show there more commonly.

The following factors are often to blame for wrinkles under the eyes:

  • Natural aging process: Marked by a significant reduction in collagen production and thus skin elasticity
  • Exposure to UV light from the sun which damages skin cells leading to wrinkles and hyperpigmentation as Paula Begoun, the author of “Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter without Me” says.
  • Free radicals resulting from cigarette smoke, air pollution etc

Vitamin E ranks among the best ways to treat and prevent wrinkles from developing around your eyes (and any other part of the body for that matter).

According to WebMD, vitamin E is the most important antioxidant since it protects the cell membranes while preventing damages to enzymes associated with them.

Research studies have shown that taking Vitamin E orally helps to reduce the harmful effects of the UV from the sun. One such study published by The American Academy of Dermatology showed that taking 400 units of vitamin E everyday not only reduces the risk of cell damage by the sun but also lower the risk of skin cancer.

Taking vitamin E can also help to reduce wrinkles. The Medicinenet website, however, cautions against exceeding 400 units per day saying that large doses of vitamin E could actually be harmful. Foods rich in vitamin E include dairy products, vegetable oils e.g. sunflower oil, oats, grains and nuts. Eat them to prevent wrinkles and smooth out fine lines on your skin.

You may also want to take vitamin E supplements. One proponent of vitamin E supplement is Karen E. Burke, MD, who says that “Supplementation with vitamin E in 400 milligrams a day has been noted to reduce photodamage, wrinkles and improve skin texture.”

Topical application of vitamin E-containing creams is also a popular wrinkle treatment approach, but it is surrounded by lots of controversies in as far as its effectiveness is concerned.

Some skin care experts stand by vitamin E creams and serums saying that they actually help reduce wrinkles but some opponents such as Karen E. Burke, for example, think otherwise. According to Dr. Burke, “…almost all available topical formulations contain very low concentrations of antioxidants that are not well absorbed by the skin.”

Dr. Burke says poor absorption of the antioxidant in the skin means that they either don’t work or have just short-term effects.

The WebMD, however, points out that more effective vitamin E formulations continue to be availed and this auger well with the increasingly positive outlook of topical vitamin E anti-aging properties as at the time of this writing.

In addition to using vitamin E for wrinkles under eyes, you will also want to observe the following tips:

  • Avoid lifestyle practices that may worsen facial wrinkles including smoking, frowning, and tanning. Remember using vitamin E for wrinkles improvement can only go a long way.
  • Using an anti-wrinkle pillow may help to prevent scrunching up your face as your sleep.
  • Protect your skin from sun damage by applying a good SPF sunscreen; at least SPF15
  • Keep the skin moisturized: The American Academy of Dermatology recommends applying a facial cream or lotion every morning saying it helps to fill your skin with water and thus make the wrinkles less noticeable.

Facial wrinkles are one of the most common signs of ageing. Unfortunately they can be distressing to some people since they are just as prominent as the face itself.

The face is also how we present ourselves to other people and having some fine lines or wrinkles under the eyes is nobody’s idea of fun, especially if occurring at earlier age than is expected.

There are many vitamin E oil products out there today touted to help get rid of wrinkles and they may be a worthy consideration for those fine lines on your face or forehead furrows.

You will however want to consider the following tips to ensure maximum benefit when using Vitamin E Oil for Face Wrinkles.

Think twice if you are prone to acne breakout: Joanna Vargas cautions that applying vitamin E oil could lead to more acne breakouts since it is usually very “heavy”.

Apply the oil at night: Stafford R. Broumand, MD, a New York City-based cosmetic and plastic surgeon, suggests applying vitamin E oils at night since they are typically greasy. You may want to use the oil in place of your night moisturizer or cream.

Combine with vitamin C: Vitamin C helps to decrease the effect of the sun on the skin and combining it with Vitamin E (an antioxidant against free radicals) makes for especially great protection against sun damage as The American Academy of Dermatology says.

With so much controversy and differing opinions enshrouding the use of vitamin E for wrinkles, there is no better way to break the tie than to look at vitamin E for wrinkles reviews online as well as before and after photos of people who have tried the oil to smooth out wrinkles.

We did exactly that as we researched this article and found varied opinions from people who have used vitamin E oil for wrinkles.

With a rating of 4.5on Makeup Alley based on 84 customer reviews and 4.2 on Amazon based on 108 customer reviews, Jason Natural Cosmetics – Vitamin E Pure Beauty Oil seemed to fair well among users and is one of the best vitamin E oils out there (as at the time of this writing).

We thus decided to focus on it and here are of the opinions we were someof the opinions we came across:

“…One of the small wrinkles near my eye became less visible too…” (User reviews on makeupalley.com)

“My skin tone is even and complexion is brighter and my forehead wrinkle is shorter in length” (From a customer review on Amazon UK)

One user expressed concerns with the oil for its tendency to worsen acne breakouts saying,

“I stopped using the vitamin e oil not because I don’t [sic] like it. It is because I found something better for my skin which is the raw shea butter. Using vitamin e oil needs a little bit of caution because it can cause break out…”
