Are you thinking about getting a dermal filler? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Dermal fillers, also known as fillers, are becoming more and more popular as a cosmetic procedure. They’re used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, helping to fight against the signs of aging. If you’re wondering what to look for in a dermal filler, this guide should help answer all your questions.
What are dermal fillers?
A dermal filler is a small injectable gel made of either synthetic or natural ingredients. It is used to treat skin conditions by increasing the volume of the soft tissue. Dermal fillers can be injected directly into the skin to fill in lines, wrinkles and creases. They can be used anywhere on the face, from around the eyes and cheeks to the mouth and jaw line. They can also be injected directly into your lip tissue to add volume and improve the appearance of your lips.
There are two primary types. Both offer different advantages and work best for different skin types.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic Facial Fillers are made from a natural substance that’s found in the eyes, joints, and skin. It’s so strong that it can hold a thousand times its own weight in water. These fillers help your face look fuller, keep its shape, and stay hydrated.
PCI fillers
It is also sometimes referred to as Ellanse (Ellanse-Radiesse) or simply Radiesse. It is one of the most commonly used fillers as it can naturally increase collagen production when applied in a well-positioned area of the face.
How do dermal fillers work?
Starting around age 25, our natural levels of collagen (which helps keep your skin looking youthful) start to decrease, resulting in a decrease in volume. Dermal fillers work by replenishing the natural levels of elastin (a type of collagen) and collagen (a type of elastin that isn’t produced as a result of ageing) in the dermis. These fillers are acids that naturally-occur in the dermis and are injected through fine needles into the skin to add volume and lift. They rejuvenate the skin, making it firmer, more youthful and fresher.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Depending on your body’s response and the type of filler used, the effects can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months.
Once you’ve achieved your desired results, you’ll most likely need to have an additional treatment to keep your results looking good.
Since Hyaluronic Acid fillers are broken down by your body over a period of six months, the effects usually dissipate with no long-term consequences.
Do they have side effects?
swelling and redness are to be expected, as is itching, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site. These are natural reactions, with mild to moderate pain that should last for a few hours but not more than a couple of days.
Tissue infections and sores are very rare. However, as part of our excellent Prolaser Clinic’s post-operative care, we are here to support you if you do experience any issues.
